As the end got closer and the desperation on Helena East’s sideline grew more intense, Bozeman’s Pi Taylor refused to cede an inch.

Bozeman’s junior face-off specialist — the leader in face-offs won in the entire league — was matched against Helena’s Brady Swenson — second in face-offs won and the leader in win percentage by half a point over Taylor — for much of Sunday’s state championship game at Bobcat Stadium.

Taylor continued his strong play from Saturday’s semifinal and won a dozen face-offs in the title game, with 11 of those coming against the only player in the league close to matching his skills at midfield.
