On The Mound

Gallatin Valley’s Gabriel Delgatty fires in a pitch Sunday evening against the Dillon Cubs at Imerys Field. The Outlaws won the contest 15-3.

THREE FORKS — Mother Nature wreaked havoc Friday at the 20th Annual Imerys Memorial Tournament.

The second day of the four-day tournament was completely washed out by rain, which forced longtime Gallatin Valley coach Duwayne Scott to revamp the schedule. The Outlaws had planned to play five games, but were forced to settled for three.

Still, it was a very successful tournament for the home team which routed all three of its opponents. The Outlaws beat Lewistown 16-4 on Thursday, and then beat the Emmanuel Halos 11-0 Friday and Dillon Cubs 15-3 on Sunday.

“Yeah, we were 3-0, but we didn’t play the (Bitterroot) Red Sox or Cody (Wyoming),” said Scott. “Getting rained out on Friday I kind of manipulated the schedule a little bit so everybody got four games in. We were trying to play Cody Friday night, but the rain never stopped. So us and Cody only got three games in where everybody else got four.”

Put Out

Gallatin Valley shortstop Michael Nehring throws the ball to first for a put out against Dillon on Sunday.

Gallatin Valley (10-9) broke open each contest with a big inning. The Outlaws scored 11 runs in the third against Lewistown, tallied seven in the first against Emmanuel, and had nine in the third against Dillon.

Caleb Kamerman, Bo Hays and Gabriel Delgatty notched the wins on the mound in each game, respectively, and Delgatty was also 2 for 2 at the plate with a double against Emmanuel.

“I thought we played well. I thought we swung the bat well in every game. Our pitchers threw strikes. I thought Bo and Gabe both had good outings last night and today,” said Scott. “And it was nice using up some of those arms just because using Michael (Jones) and Michael (Nehring) last week, it was kind of nice not having to use them this weekend.”

Hunter Johnson was 2 for 3 with a double against Lewistown, while the Outlaws capitalized on seven walks and three hit batsmen against the Cubs.

Gallatin Valley returns to action this weekend at the Harold Gjerde Memorial Tournament in Lewistown.

“Obviously it would have been nice to get five games in, but we’ll take three right now at least,” said Scott. “And hopefully next weekend in Lewistown we’ll get five in then and maybe six. We’ll just see how it plays out.”
