Chloe Ho and Wilson Whitley were the first Bozeman Climbing Team athletes in nearly a decade to qualify for the finals of the USA Climbing: Sport & Speed Youth National Championships in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, earlier in July.

The Bozeman Climbing Team sent five to the national competition. Each category, based on age and gender, contained 50 competitors, and the first two days of the event were qualifier rounds. From there, the top 20 athletes in each category advanced to the semifinal round, and the top 10 advanced to the finals after the semis.

Whitley (10 years old) finished second in sport, qualifying her for the US national team, and 25th in speed. Ho (11) took seventh in sport and 34th in speed.

Aubrey Johnson (18 years old) finished 37th in sport and 15th in speed. Klara Dumbrovska (14) finished 31st in sport and 32nd in speed. Avery Childre (11) finished 26th in sport.

“We are super proud of all the hard work these athletes have put in throughout the year,” said Ty Morrison-Heath, gym/marketing manager of Spire Climbing Center.
