I testified in favor of bills HB146/147 at the committee meeting in Helena that Mr. Ed Stafman (guest column, Feb. 16) claims is a front for white supremacists. The political strategy of the left wing of the Democratic Party is to label people who have differing opinions on immigration as racists, xenophobes, anti-immigrant or white supremacists.

For example, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) labeled the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) as a hate group (later retracted). CIS’s crime was publishing research showing the failure and deception in our immigration system. Mr. Stafman claimed that HB146/147 are unnecessary as there are no sanctuary cities in Montana, but what he failed to mention is that Helena, Butte and other cities considered sanctuary resolutions.

As a lawyer, Mr. Stafman knows that the state cannot easily nullify a city’s sanctuary law, once passed. If the state fails to pass these bills you can be sure that some cities will adopt sanctuary laws, which is the left’s hidden agenda.

These bills have nothing to do with racism but making sure that local police can turn over criminal illegal immigrants to ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). The elimination of ICE is now the position of the leading leftist Democratic presidential candidates except for centrists like Democratic candidate Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). She said, “We are always going to need immigration enforcement, I think we know that. We are a major country with major borders.”

The ultimate goal of the left wing of the Democratic Party is to eliminate ICE and have open borders. After years of denial the cat is finally out of the bag, and voters will have a clear choice in 2020: keep ICE and immigration law or open the borders to waves of poor and uneducated immigrants.
