A medical airplane found a 1-acre fire Thursday burning nearly a mile east of Wyodaho Lake in Yellowstone National Park’s Bechler District.

The park said in a news release that the Wyodaho Fire is smoldering and creeping in grass and open timber in a remote area about a mile from the Bechler River Trail.

A mile around the fire has been closed for safety reasons, though the park said no trails or campsites are closed. Fire officials will monitor the fire and expand the closure if needed.

The park said Yellowstone is a fire-adapted ecosystem. Fire plays an important role in maintaining the health of the area’s wildlife habitat and vegetation.
