Funnel cloud

A small funnel cloud forms over Bozeman briefly on Sunday.

The National Weather Service said a strong thunderstorm near Bozeman could cause brief, weak funnel clouds Sunday evening.

The funnels are usually harmless but on rare occasions can touch down and cause gusts over 50 mph, the weather service said in a special weather statement. The statement said people should move indoors and contact the weather service if a funnel approaches their location.

The weather service said the thunderstorm would affect east central Gallatin County. Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea-sized hail are possible with the storm.
