Ricky Butler, of Paris, Texas, has been identified as the man who died in the crash.
The semitrailer was driving west on Interstate 90 on wet road conditions and through light snow, according to the Montana Highway Patrol’s fatal crash report.
The vehicle went off the left side of the road and into the median at mile marker 311 just east of Bozeman, then over the embankment and down onto Fort Ellis Road, which runs under the interstate.
The cab of the Volvo Semi landed on the embankment, and the trailer stretched across Fort Ellis Road.
Butler, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt and law enforcement does not suspect that he was under the influence or driving too fast, according to the crash report. He was the only person in the vehicle.
Gallatin County Chief Deputy Coroner Benjamin Burch said the investigation into the wreck is ongoing, and that more information may be available later in the week.
