A Bozeman businessman is suing the Montana Democratic Party after he says the organization made false statements about the Republican candidate for U.S. House in campaign advertisements.

Greg Gianforte, founder and former CEO of RightNow Technologies, filed the lawsuit against the state’s Democratic Party in Gallatin County District Court last week. He claims the organization distorted facts about U.S. House candidate Steve Daines’ involvement with RightNow in ads blasting the candidate.

Gianforte started RightNow Technologies in 1997 and grew it to more than 1,100 employees in 15 years, the lawsuit says. In 2000, Daines joined RightNow, where he held executive positions like vice president of customer services, vice president of North American sales and vice president of Asia-Pacific during his 12 years with the company.
