A skier was rescued after being knocked unconscious in a wreck near Big Sky on Monday afternoon.

According to the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, around 2:15 p.m., a 19-year-old Bozeman man skied off a jump in Beehive Basin and crashed.

The man was knocked unconscious for 30 seconds to a minute and was confused and combative toward his friends when he woke up, indicating a serious head injury.

A friend in the group called 911. A medical helicopter from Air Idaho and a backcountry rescue helicopter from Gallatin County Search and Rescue were launched, along with a ground team of search and rescue personnel from Big Sky.

The medical helicopter was able to land near the skier and transport him to Big Sky Medical Center.
