Businesses are thriving in Bozeman partly due to the public lands nearby, according to several local business owners who met Friday with Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.

Eager to advocate the preservation of public lands, members of the local group Business for Montana’s Outdoors awaited Jewell as she arrived with Sen. Jon Tester at the Yellowstone Jet Center at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport.

Coming off of 13 years as a leader at REI before being confirmed as Interior Secretary almost a year ago, Jewell said she was familiar with the economic boon that public parks and forests could provide for businesses.
