A Bozeman man pleaded not guilty Monday to stealing a woman’s purse at a mall restaurant and brandishing a knife at a man chasing him.

Miguel Angel Aldava, 20, is charged with felony robbery. He appeared in Gallatin County District Court before Judge Rienne McElyea.

Aldava remains in the Gallatin County jail on $50,000 bail.

In June, a man reported chasing Aldava after he snatched a woman’s purse at The Bay Bar and Grille, according to court documents. The man said Aldava was running toward Bozeman Pond from the Gallatin Valley Mall parking lot.

The man told police that Aldava turned around, pulled a knife and ran at him, court documents allege. He was not injured.

An officer responded to the area and saw Aldava walking quickly through a nearby dog park, police said. Aldava then jumped the dog park’s fence and continued into a nearby apartment complex.

Police said they arrested Aldava and found two knives in his possession. An officer returned Aldava to the restaurant, where the man chasing him said he was “fairly certain” Aldava was the person who pulled the knife.
