Charles Franklin Corey, 46, appears via video Wednesday in Gallatin County Justice Court.

Bail was set at $50,000 Wednesday for a Belgrade man accused of sexually assaulting a teen girl.

Charles Franklin Corey, 46, is charged with felony sexual assault. He appeared in Gallatin County Justice Court before fill-in Judge Audrey Cromwell.

If convicted, Corey could face up to 100 years in jail and up to a $50,000 fine.

On Tuesday, an employee with Child Protective Services reported that Corey sexually assaulted a girl, according to charging documents. The girl was brought in for an interview later that day.

The girl told police that Corey gave her Nyquil Sunday evening for a cough, according to court records. The girl said she was with Corey when he asked her to take her shirt off.

Police said in charging documents that the girl tried running away after Corey sexually assaulted her, but he grabbed her and put his hand over her mouth to keep her from calling for help. She said Corey continued to assault her and later told her it would be their secret, according to court records.

Belgrade detectives brought Corey into the Belgrade Police Department to question him. During the interview, police said, Corey gave inconsistent details of the night and denied sexually assaulting the girl.
