Gov. Steve Bullock has hired an experienced Democratic campaign manager to take the reins of his 2016 reelection effort.

Eric Hyers, who led Democrat Gina Raimondo to a 2014 gubernatorial victory in Rhode Island, will head Bullock's reelection effort. Hyers also managed two winning campaigns for Congressman David Cicilline, D-Rhode Island, in 2010 and 2012.

An email sent to Hyers was responded to by Jason Pitt, who was also recently hired as the communications director at the Montana Democrats' Coordinated Campaign.

In an email, Pitt said that Hyers would arrive in Montana later this summer and would work out of Helena. He did not say if other senior staff positions on the campaign had been filled.

Bullock's campaign thus far has focused on fundraising. According to the most recent campaign finance reports, Bullock has $595,000 in campaign funds.

Bullock's 2012 campaign manager, Kevin O'Brien, is still an adviser but works from the Democratic Governor's Association which is currently chaired by the Montana governor.
