Letter to the editor: Coral reefs vital to healthy sea life

Letter Policy

To enhance the public discussion on issues, the Chronicle encourages letters from our readers. Coral reefs are tiny animals in colonies. These animals form coral out of limestone. All living things are made up of cells. Coral reefs are made of millions of cells! There are 700 species of coral. Coral reefs are home to 4,000 species of fish.

Kelp grows to the top of the ocean. Coral is found in more than 100 countries. Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef on Earth. It stretches more than 1,200 miles. The Arctic is the smallest of the oceans. Coral reef are found between the Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn. If you bump or touch a coral reef it could die. Explore a coral reef safely. Don’t throw crab nets in the ocean. Don’t feed people food to coral or animals in the ocean. Don’t pollute the water.
