Consolidating sorting could save U.S. Postal Service $600,000

GREAT FALLS (AP) -- The U.S. Postal Service is eyeing possible consolidation of some mail sorting operations in Montana that could cut 15 jobs and save the agency nearly $600,000 a year.

A preliminary study found that if the agency moves some sorting from Butte, Havre and Helena to Great Falls, it could cut 14 jobs and save about $500,000 a year. A similar switch from Miles City to Billings would eliminate another job and save the agency $95,000 a year, the Great Falls Tribune reported Thursday.
