A Montana State University undergraduate is seeking the assistance of anyone who travels in avalanche terrain at least one day each year.

A research project for an advanced composition class, senior English major Matt Parsons has created a 10-question survey designed to assess the knowledge of winter backcountry travelers.

The confidential survey takes about three minutes to complete and asks about recreationalists’ avalanche training, confidence in assessing avalanche danger and backcountry travel habits.

After analyzing the data, Parsons plans to use it to make recommendations to avalanche educators about what segments of training they should focus on improving.
