A 57-year-old Madison County woman died Saturday afternoon when she drove off of U.S. Highway 287 near Norris Hill and rolled her car.

Melissa Bischoff died of internal injuries, County Sheriff Dave Schenk said Monday.

Bischoff was driving northbound at about 3:15 p.m. when she apparently drove off the road near of the base of Norris Hill, north of McAllister. She overcorrected several times before the car began to roll, Schenk said.

The first people to arrive on the scene found Bischoff trapped in her vehicle. She was transported by ambulance to the Madison Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, Schenk said. The Montana Highway Patrol also responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of the accident.

Bischoff is the wife of James Bischoff, a former doctor from Ennis who is facing charges of deliberate homicide in the death of an 85-year-old woman under his care when he worked at the hospital.

James Bischoff also faces numerous drug charges. He is in the Jefferson County jail in Boulder after failing a drug test last week.

The test is required as part of James Bischoff's release from jail for his charges. His trial is scheduled to begin May 16.

Sheriff deputies arrested James Bischoff for criminal possession of dangerous drugs last week.
