KALISPELL (AP) — A former Internal Revenue Service employee from Kalispell has pleaded guilty to unauthorized inspection of tax returns.

The U.S. Attorney's office says 46-year-old Todd Snarr reached a plea agreement earlier this month. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 16.

The Daily Inter Lake reports Snarr worked for the IRS from 1994 to 2010. Prosecutors allege that several times between January 2006 and April 2008, Snarr illegally accessed the tax records of two people with whom he had a personal relationship. In the plea agreement, Snarr admits accessing one person's records.

The violations were uncovered during an investigation designed to identify electronic taxpayer refunds fraudulently diverted to IRS employees. Snarr became a target because the 2007 refund of one of the taxpayers was designated to the same bank account as Snarr's 2007 refund.
