Democratic convention tales
Bozeman has sent a couple folks to Denver for the Democratic National Convention, but local party faithful are also bringing the event home.
“Watch parties” for convention speeches by Gov. Brian Schweitzer, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama will be held in Belgrade and Bozeman this week. Schweitzer and Clinton speak Tuesday; Obama’s speech is Thursday.
* In Belgrade, supporters will gather at JR’s Lounge, 203 West Madison Ave., Suite D, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. both nights.
* In Bozeman, supporters will gather at the Pour House, 15 N. Rouse Ave. on Tuesday and Colombo’s Pizza and Pasta, 1003 W. College St. on Thursday.
There also will be a local online component to the convention. State Rep. JP Pomnichowski, D-Bozeman, will be sharing convention news on her blog, “JP For Montana,” at jpformontana.blogspot.com. She’s already posted several photos, and some video as well.
And to keep tabs on convention happenings while driving around town, check out the special reports from the NPR news magazine “Here and Now.” The national show has joined the bandwagon with given Montana a bunch of attention at the convention. Show host Robin Young plans to follow the Montana Delegation all week. “Here and Now” can be heard on Yellowstone Public Radio at noon, or on the Web at Here-Now.org.
