Schweitzer announces new scholarship program
Montana high school seniors who perform 100 hours of community service before May 16, will be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship, Gov. Brian Schweitzer announced.
The scholarships may be used at any college or university in the state.
The Governor's Office of Community Service, the Montana Campus Compact and the Student Assistance Foundation are working together to offer $150,000 in scholarships.
"I hope every Montana student takes advantage of the opportunity to become involved in their communities through community service," Schweitzer said in a news release. "Montana needs their energy, enthusiasm and leadership.
"These scholarships will not only further their education, but help keep Montana on the move," he said.
Only one student per high school can apply, and eight scholarships will be available to seniors not attending public high school.
The scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to students who attend one of Montana's public, tribal, private, community or technical colleges.
The applications must be submitted by a high school principal or county superintendent.
