Home next to Yellowstone National Park up for auction
A businessman and founder of a popular West Yellowstone tourist attraction has put his home next to Yellowstone National Park up for auction.
Lewis Robinson plans to sell off his home on Duck Creek Road, about eight miles north of West Yellowstone, in an auction to be held Aug. 21.
Neither Robinson nor the company handling the sale, the J.P. King Auction Company, is giving an asking price, but the property is bordered by Yellowstone National Park to the east and by the Gallatin National Forest to the south. It has a porch overlooking Duck Creek Pond and comes with its own helicopter pad.
“The essence of the auction is the open bidding process so we do the best we can to preserve the integrity for that,” Carl Carter of J.P. King said.
Robinson is an investment banker and developer whose company, Robinson Interests of Montana, manages the Hebgen Lake Estates Subdivision outside West Yellowstone.
He also is a founder of the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, which takes in bears that have been removed from the wild because they have become too comfortable around people. The center also keeps several captive-born wolves that can't be released into the wild.
“I've spent my entire life in pursuits that involved competitive bidding, so the idea of an auction makes a lot of sense to me,” Robinson said in a news release, which stated he now spends most of his time fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.
Robinson's home, Duck Creek Retreat, has a main house with six bedrooms and five bathrooms, and a guess house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is also a four-vehicle garage with covered parking for four additional vehicles.
Bidders and their representatives will gather at the property on Aug. 21 for the auction.
