Couple killed in accident near Lewis and Clark Caverns identified
Avery and Dana Nave, 32 and 34 respectively, were killed in a single-car accident Thursday at Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies said Monday.
Both of them grew up in the Gallatin Valley and had been married for less than six months at the time of the accident.
The couple ran off the road after negotiating a right curve at close to 70 mph, more than double the speed limit, the Montana Highway Patrol said.
Neither of them were wearing seat belts.
The crash happened Thursday night, but their bodies were not discovered until Friday morning when a park official saw evidence of the crash on the roadway. Dana was thrown from the car, while Avery was partially ejected. A highway patrolman said their deaths were instantaneous.
