Man accused of trying to jump out of cop car on Interstate

A Bozeman man who allegedly fought with officers and tried to jump out of a moving patrol car on Interstate 90 early Monday morning was arrested and charged with drunken driving and felony escape.

Joshua Anthony Jordan, 26, was expected to be arraigned in Justice Court Tuesday, but has not cooperated with police and remains jailed on no bond.

At about 3 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a disorderly man at the Super 8 Motel in Belgrade.

Jordan was gone when officers arrived, but a sheriff's deputy spotted his brown Plymouth sedan at a nearby gas station and stopped him.

Officers found that Jordan had illegal license plates on his Plymouth, was driving on a suspended license and reeked of alcohol, according to court records.

Jordan was subsequently arrested.

While Belgrade Police Officer Michael Rassley removed the plates, Jordan allegedly became unruly and it took 20 minutes to secure his feet to the floor of the patrol car and put on his seatbelt.

During the trip from Belgrade to the jail in Bozeman, Jordan kicked out the patrol car's window, according to court papers, and was able to open the car door while Rassley drove down I-90.

Rassley stopped the vehicle, shot Jordan with pepper spray and struggled to get him back into the vehicle.

About one-half mile later, Rassley kicked the patrol car's door open again. This time, two deputies assisted Rassley in suppressing Jordan, who was shocked twice with a Taser gun.

Once at the jail, Jordan continued to struggle with officers and refused to take off his sweatshirt, court records say.

Along with felony escape, Jordan is accused of felony drunken driving since he has three previous DUI charges.

He should appear in Justice Court for his initial arraignment today.
